I met Dion at a show in Middletown CT just over 2 years ago and needless to say he impressed me. He is passionate about his music and he wants to put it out there and touch people’s lives. He’s not driven by Top 40 status but by having an effect on people. His music comes from his heart and you can see his growth through each album he has released. It’s truly awesome to have made such an inspiring friend and to have watched him progress in his art and in the industry.
Dion is currently on his Spring 2012 tour with Tyler Hilton with stops in NY, CT, MA, NJ, GA, TN, PA, VA, and more. I made it to his show at The Space in Hamden CT on April 2nd.
Opening for Dion and Tyler were two fun guys Dakota and Will. They had a ton of energy on and off stage and good tunes too. They’re from Nashville and they instantly won a soft spot with the country girl inside me.
Dion took the stage and played an awesome set. Letting his Connecticut fans get a preview of his upcoming album Into the Day. From what we’ve seen so far this is bound to be his best yet so keep your eyes peeled as he should be releasing Into the Day, his first full album, in late spring.
First known for the show One Tree Hill, Tyler Hilton is a crowd pleaser. Dion has been touring with Tyler for quite some time and Tyler is even featured on Dion’s album Welcome Home.
After the show fans lined up to meet and greet with Tyler and Dion. This is where Dion’s true character really shines. He cares about his fans and takes the time to chat with every person who comes up to him. He’s real, he’s fun and you just can’t help but like him!
On stage Dion tells a story about a hotel stay in Connecticut which inspired the song “Dirty Hotel Scenery” but it wasn’t on the set list! We were bummed but Dion, never wanting to disappoint his fans, took a seat on the stage and played it for those of us who were still hanging out after the show was over.
It was really touching to know he cares about his fans enough to stay and play just one more before he gets back on the road.
You’ll find Dion’s albums on iTunes and you can friend him on Facebook as well as on twitter @DionRoy.
Our New Jersey friends can catch him this week. Today, April 4th at Canvas Clash in Boontown or Saturday the 7th at Maxwell’s in Hoboken.
